DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 13 <br />May 5, 2008 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />acquaintances. Councilmember Stephens expressed appreciation to the Council for selecting <br />him as vice mayor. <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the John Muir Fun Run and the Earth Day <br />tree planting. He commented that the Alameda County Democratic Committee, a 501(c)(3) <br />non-profit organization, was told it could not have a booth at the Cherry Festival as it had in <br />previous years and at other local festivals. Councilmember Prola requested that this matter be <br />reviewed by the Council Rules and Communications Committee. He noted that while it is too <br />late for this year, he would like the Committee to be able to participate in 2009. <br />Mayor Santos commented that he presided as Grand Marshal at the Stepping Stones <br />fundraiser, and attended the Earth Day Cleanup event. He noted that about 250 people <br />participated in the Cleanup, including a large number of employees from Tri-Net. Mayor <br />Santos also attended the Watershed Festival and Holy Ghost celebration. Mayor Santos <br />commented on the young man, Art Sequiera, who is challenged with a hearing impairment, <br />and yet achieved his Eagle Scout rank and is attending Cal State East Bay. Mayor Santos <br />commented on a program in which he is participating with the Chamber of Commerce to visit <br />owners and CEOs of local b <br />relationship with local business owners and CEOs, and he is discussing with the Chamber the <br />Council has not taken positions on Propositions 98 and 99, and stated that he would like to <br />have a resolution considered at the next meeting. He announced that the next meeting of the <br />Alameda County Mayors Conference will be held on May 14 in San Leandro, and expressed <br />hope that some members of the Council could attend. <br />Vice Mayor Grant commented that she thought the Council had a policy not to take positions <br />an exception for issues that impacted the City. He suggested that the Council could discuss <br />the propositions on the basis that they would have an impact on the City. <br />Councilmember Starosciak recalled that the Council as a whole was unable to take a position <br />on the recent San Leandro School District ballot measure. Mr. Jermanis indicated that staff <br />would research the policy. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented on Casey, a terminally ill young boy whom he befriended at this <br /> <br />memory of Daniel Nelson, a teacher at San Leandro High School. <br /> <br />13.
