ORGANIZATION TYPE Grant 2005-06 Grant 2006-07 Grant 2007-08 REQUEST 2008-09 RECOMM. 2008-09 San Leandro CollegeBound/LTnited Parents of SLHS Community $2,000 $2,000 $2,000 $3,000 $2,750 Program Statement: San Leandro CollegeBound provides San Leandro students wide college-focus activities in an effort to prepare more students for college. Events Formerly offered through the City Library, we have transitioned the same program to the new home base of the San Leandro High School library. We offer up to 200 students the opportunity to prepare for college through SAT test Special preparation seminars, essay-writing lessons, college campus visits and tours, Programs college admissions interview preparation, and financial aid seminars. While high school prepares our students academically for college, our program provides them with the "how-td' information to apply and be accepted into colleges and to be successful upon arrival. FY2007-08 Funding Note: Due to limited funding, the Commission recommends funding at prior year level Commission challenges all grantees to fund raise to offset/leverage City grant funds. Commission also makes the following suggestions: • Continue outreach to all San Leandro residents, including SLUSD and SLzZUSD • Consider keeping fee at $50 or $60. The fee would still be reasonable and applicant would be less reliant on grant funds. • Encourage applicant to do outreach to school principals, PTAs and school leadership programs. FY 2008-09 Funding Note: Commission is pleased to recommend funding for this valuable community based program. Due to the limited number of applications that were received that most closely fit the funding guidelines, the Commission was able to recommend increased funding for several applicants for the FY 2008- 09 grant cycle. Please note that this level of funding may not be sustained in future years. All applicants are encouraged to seek other funding sources and grant opportunities to expand funding resource.
