Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority
Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities
Resnonse•
In order to plan for next year, staff gathered public input through paratransit focus group
meetings, the August 2007 ACTIA survey, work sessions with the Senior Commission and
trip/rider pattern analysis.
Following is a summary of the key results and how the issues are addressed in the FY 2008-
09 Paratransit Plan:
In the August 2007 ACTIA survey, San Leandro riders rated the service 97% fare to
excellent and 73% good to excellent. Only 3% rated the service poor. 97% of our
riders indicated that the service had stayed the same or improved over the last year.
Although we always strive to improve the service, we were pleased with the
satisfaction indicators.
2. The following information was gathered in the public workshops:
a. Riders suggested better signage on the vehicles to indicate the type of service
provided, i.e. shuttle, curb-to-curb.
Action: Improved signs have been added to the vehicles to clearly identify the
service.
b. Riders suggested the addition of a second grab bar at the entrance of the
vehicles.
Action: The additional grab bar has been added to all of our vehicles.
c. Riders suggested that the service be extended to evenings and weekends.
Action: Budget constraints prohibit expansion of the program. We
considered modifying the service hours to offer limited day, evening and
weekend hours within the budget limitations, but decided not to make any
changes because weekend and evening service has not rated high in surveys
conducted by the City.
d. Riders expressed concern that they are not always able to get a ride when
needed.
Action: The reservation based service has reached capacity. Unfortunately,
we are not always able to provide a ride when requested.
e. One rider requested that a shuttle stop be added to the corner of Marina Blvd
and Sitka.
Action: We will investigate the possibility of adding an additional stop to the
shuttle schedule.
FY 2008-09 Rider Estimates:
• 1405 Registered Riders
• 150 Unduplicated Riders -Curb-to-Curb Service
• The number of unduplicated riders on the Shuttle Service is not measured.
G:\Oliver\Paratransit\FY 2008-09\MB Annual Program Application Cover FY0809.doc
Page 10 of 18
