2. Public Comments
Barry Luboviski, Building Trades Council, concurred that an exclusive agreement is essential
and requested that "Labor Harmony" be included in the agreement to make it clear what is
expected of the developer.
Sabrina Porter, Local 2850 Oakland, recommended that union labor be include as a
requirement in the development plans.
Nischit Hedge, Unite Here, recommended that the City create standards for health care and
wages, and include "Labor Harmony" in the development agreement to prevent labor strife
during construction and operation of the new project.
$o Johannson asked when the community would have an opportunity to meet the developer.
Audrey Albers stated that dredging is important, however, she has not heard any mention of it.
She explained that the City has a marina and must try to save it. She does not want to see a
marina for kayaks and canoes only.
Mike Cook stated that he has only heard about a conference center, hotel and restaurants.
Perhaps a hotel and convention center is not the best solution and asked that the City have an
open mind. Future development should be an income producing solution.
Mayor Santos interjected that no decision has been made regarding the type of development.
He explained that although there was some sentiment in the room to dredge and keep the
Marina (for boaters), the majority of the community does not want to pay the high cost of
dredging.
Obray Van Buren, Pipe Trades Association, recommended that a "Labor Harmony" provision
be included in the agreement.
3. Committee Member Comments
Councilmember Starosciak shared that she was impressed that Cal-Coast read the minutes of
the townhall meetings regarding the Shoreline-Marina Area and understood the needs of the
City and the community. She reiterated her belief that Cal-Coast will be able to work
effectively with the community.
Councilmember Prola explained to the audience that the type of development to occur at the
Shoreline-Marina Area has not been predetermined.
4. Adjourn - The meeting adjourned at 2:45 P.M.
