MINUTES Page 3 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-May 19, 2008 <br />REGULAR MEETING 7:00 PM-City Council Chambers <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />A. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag <br />Mayor Santos led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />B. Roll Call <br />PRESENT: Members Grant, Gregory, Prola, Souza, Starosciak, Stephens; <br />Mayor Santos <br />ABSENT: None <br />2. PRESENTATIONS/RECOGNITIONS <br />A. Presentation on "The Plastic Predicament" Project by Members of the East Hills 4-H <br />Club. <br />Clay Ferguson and Chance Boreczky, members of the East Hills 4-H Club, gave a video <br />presentation of their 4-H ecology project entitled, "The Plastic Predicament." Clay and <br />Chance created the video to educate the public about the negative environmental <br />impacts associated with the widespread use of plastic, and what individuals can do to <br />help. The boys stated that they hoped their video would convince the City Council to <br />ban plastic bags in San Leandro. <br />Councilmember Gregory thanked the boys for their excellent presentation, noting that <br />Vice Mayor Stephens had suggested an ordinance regulating the distribution of plastic <br />bags in San Leandro, and that the Council may also consider a ban on Styrofoam. <br />Mayor Santos thanked Clay and Chance for their presentation, and stated that he would <br />mention the presentation at the next meeting of StopWaste.Org. Mayor Santos read a <br />letter he received from Clay and Chance, which requested that the City Council consider <br />a ban on plastic bags in San Leandro. He invited the boys to attend a future meeting to <br />monitor the Council's progress on its plastic bag ordinance. <br />B. Presentation by Representatives of the Group "Quality of Life Services." <br />Karen Fernandez, Director of Quality of Life Services, introduced herself and gave a <br />short PowerPoint presentation. The presentation described the group, whose mission is <br />to provide education to residents on topics that would enhance their quality of life, as <br />
