Section 7-5-635: EMERGENCY WORK. A permit shall not be required prior to <br />performance of work regulated by this Article when such work is necessary because of an <br />emergency requiring the immediate performance of such work for the protection of a life or <br />property, provided that the party performing such work shall notify the Building Official of the <br />performance of said work within twenty-four (24) hours thereafter, and shall obtain a permit <br />therefor pursuant to the provisions of this Article. <br />Section 7-5-640: APPLICATION TO PUBLIC UTILITIES. The provisions of Section 7-5- <br />600 shall not apply to any electrical work performed by any electrical corporation, telephone <br />corporation, railroad corporation or other public utility on or with electrical equipment owned or <br />controlled or operated or used by or for the exclusive benefit of such corporation, in the conduct <br />of its business as a public utility, or to any other work by such corporation, the performance of <br />which is exempt under the Constitution of any law of the State of California from payment of any <br />municipal tax. A11 other provisions of this Chapter shall apply, if applicable, to all electrical <br />work performed by such public utility corporations. Nothing herein contained shall be construed <br />to allow any such corporation to perform electrical work for the public, or to engage in the <br />business of electrical contracting. <br />Section 7-5-645: EXEMPTIONS FROM PERMIT REQUIREMENT. An electrical permit <br />shall not be required for the following: <br />(a) Portable motors or other portable appliances energized by the means of a cord or cable <br />having an attachment plug end to be connected to an approved receptacle when that cord <br />or cable is permitted by the Electrical Code; <br />(b) Repair or replacement of fixed motors, transformers, or fixed approved appliances of the <br />same type and rating in the same location; <br />(c) Installation of temporary decorative lighting; <br />(d) Repair or replacement of current -carrying parts of any switch, contactor or control <br />device; <br />(e) Reinstallation of attachment plug receptacles, but not the outlets associated therewith; <br />(f) Repair or replacement of any overcurrent device of the required capacity in the same <br />location; <br />(g) Repair or replacement of electrodes or transformers of the same size and capacity for <br />signs or gas tube systems; <br />(h) Installation of taping joints; <br />
