DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 14 <br />June 16, 2008 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />of former Councilmember Howard Kerr, and was a resident of Washington Manor for 58 <br />years. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Stephens commented on the population growth in San Leandro, and the inability <br />associations that the people using the parks are not respectful of the facilities or the <br />neighborhoods, and are perhaps more rowdy than the residents have come to expect. Vice <br />Mayor Stephens acknowledged that the Recreation and Parks Commission is examining this <br />issue, and he commented on the need to assess what is happening in the parks, such as <br />whether there is adequate infrastructure and signage, whether safe conditions exist, whether <br />drinking is a problem, whether specific rules and greater permitting are necessary in certain <br />parks, and whether the City may want to consider preferential use of parks by residents. Vice <br />Mayor Stephens added that he welcomes conversation around these issues. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the Employee BBQ and the Bridge <br />th <br />Housing 25 Anniversary. Councilmember Prola expressed agreement with Mr. Luboviski <br />on the labor harmony clause, and he suggested that Mr. Luboviski provide the Council with <br />sample language. Councilmember Prola commented that Assemblymember Hayashi named a <br />San Leandro business, Marina Mechanical, Small Business of the Year, for its green <br />practices. He noted that previously, Senator Corbett had honored Zocalo Coffeehouse as a <br />green business. Councilmember Prola thanked the citizens of San Leandro for electing him to <br />the City Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented on a program he has started with the Chamber of Commerce to <br />visit local businesses. They recently visited Coca-Cola, and he stated that he was impressed <br />with their plastics recycling program and water use reduction practices. Mayor Santos <br />commented that he was Master of Ceremonies at Flag Day, and he praised Councilmember <br />Grant for a great speech. He pointed out that the fireworks signs are up, and hoped that there <br />would be fewer problems this year. Mayor Santos commented that he attended the Boys & <br />-Time Homebuyers event, the opening of the <br />th <br />International Food Market at 14624 East 14, and the Dia de Portugal event in San Jose. He <br />commented on the 2008 California Report on Gun Legislation, and suggested that the City <br />could consider local legislation to control guns. <br /> <br />Kerr, an amazing woman who dedicated her life to the service of others; and in memory of <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />13.
