DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 12 <br />City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency, and San Leandro Redevelopment <br />September 2, 2008 <br />Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that he participated in the National Night Out activities, <br />which were very well attended. He also attended the kick-off meeting for San Leandro <br />Crossings and Vice Mayor ith BART. Councilmember Gregory <br />commented that August was unusually active for a month without Council meetings. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant agreed that August was an unusually active month. She commented <br />on her service with City Manager Jermanis, and remarked that he is fair, listens with heart, <br />and has heart and passion for his service to the City. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she attended National Night Out, <br />th <br />95 birthday celebration, a tour of the ACI facility, and the San Leandro Crossings meetings. <br />She missed the Library Carnival, and suggested that such events be listed in the <br />Weekly Update as a reminder. Councilmember Souza asked that, if possible, items on the <br />Closed Session agenda not be listed on its regular agenda, and she also requested a <br />list of the individuals that have applied to the Shoreline-Marina Citizens Advisory <br />Committee. Councilmember Souza commented that she feels honored to have worked with <br />City Manager Jermanis, and appreciated his ability to see all sides of an issue in a calm and <br />objective way. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented that she attended the dedication of the Casa Verde <br />project, the San Leandro Crossings meetings, and National Night Out. Councilmember <br />Starosciak commented that she would like to look into ways to address the problem of <br />panhandling. Councilmember Starosciak commented on the usefulness of the East Bay <br />Municipal Utility District online water survey, and encouraged everyone to check it out. She <br />requested that the Facilities Committee review the status of the plans and specifications for <br />the competitive pool at the San Leandro Family Aquatics Center. Councilmember Starosciak <br />commended Vice Mayor Stephens for hosting the dinner to honor City Manager Jermanis. <br />She commented that Mr. Jermanis has provided progressive, yet stable leadership to the City, <br />and always with the best interests of San Leandro at heart. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Stephens commented on the untimely passing of Fairfield City Councilmember <br />Matt Garcia. He expressed appreciation for the spirit of service provided by City Manager <br />Jermanis and his wife Linda for almost four decades, which he described as goodness in <br />action. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the tour of ACI, and hoped that the City <br />Council Rules and Communications Committee could consider regulation of plastic bags. He <br />commented on a news report about the recent surge in Bay Area robberies, in which local <br />communities are advised to plan for crime increases in the coming years. Councilmember <br />Prola commented favorably on the Casa Verde project. He thanked Mr. Jermanis for their <br />monthly meetings and for helping him learn in his first year on the City Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented that he attended most of the same events as the others. He <br />indicated that the State has precluded the City from taking immediate action on the issue of <br /> <br />
