With some cases reporting more than one type of discrimination, the <br />allegations accounted for the following: fifteen (15) cases involved race, three (3) <br />involved disability, one (1) involved familial status (children in the family), three (3) <br />involved age, one (1) involved sex discrimination, and one (1) involved national <br />origin. Below were the outcomes: <br />■ Eleven (11) cases were counseled and pending after being referred to <br />the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) or HUD; <br />■ Four (4) cases showed no discrimination occurred; <br />■ One (1) case is pending (all were counseled); <br />■ Three (3) clients dropped their complaints (all were counseled and <br />referred to DFEH); and <br />■ One (1) case was resolved by ECHO (this case was counseled and also <br />referred to DFEH). <br />■ ECHO's fair housing counselors conducted twenty-seven (27) fairhousingtraining <br />sessions: <br />■ Nine (9) sessions for ten (10) landlords and property managers; <br />■ Three (3) sessions for eleven (11) tenants or potential homebuyers; <br />■ Three (3) sessions for five (5) realtors; and <br />■ Twelve (12) general presentations for sixty-eight (68) persons. <br />• ECHO raised awareness in the community about fair housing through twenty-five <br />(25) public service announcements [sent to twenty-five (25) radio and television <br />stations], one (1) newspaper advertisement, and distribution of 3,250 educational <br />fliers to the Alameda County Public Libraries, non-profit agencies, churches, and <br />local Fairs. <br />• In celebration of April Fair Housing Month, ECHO participated in the annual Rental <br />Housing Owners Association (RHO) Management Fair Housing Training which <br />provided training and education to twenty-five (25) landlords on fair housing law and <br />equal access in housing. ECHO also participated in a fair housing seminar held for <br />stakeholders, including members of the housing industry and service providers. <br />0 ECHO conducts random and targeted audits to gauge the level of discrimination in <br />the rental housing market. ECHO conducted fifteen (15) targeted fair housing audits <br />to gauge the level of discrimination of specific protected classes. These were paired <br />audits that were designed to measure the level of discrimination based on race. The <br />fair housing staff produced the analyzed data in an audit report, which was published <br />in June 2008. <br />Priority # 5.
