IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO.2008- <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING MEASURE WW, <br />EXTENSION OF REGIONAL OPEN SPACE, WILDLIFE, SHORELINE AND <br />PARKS BOND <br />WHEREAS, in 1988 voters approved Measure AA to help preserve 34,000 acres of open <br />space, develop miles of new trails and fund hundreds of local parks and recreation projects; and <br />WHEREAS, while much has been accomplished over the past 20 years, the growing East <br />Bay population further increases the need for new parklands, protecting and restoring natural <br />habitat, and helping communities with local park and recreation facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, Measure WW, placed on the November 2008 ballot by the East Bay <br />Regional Park District, will extend the Regional Open Space, Wildlife, Shoreline and Parks Bond <br />by $500 million without increasing the current tax rate already being paid by Alameda and Contra <br />Costa County taxpayers; and <br />WHEREAS, monies raised by the Bond will be used to continue to restore urban creeks, <br />protect wildlife, save open space, wetlands and bay shoreline, improve local and regional parks, <br />trails and recreational facilities, and much more; and <br />WHEREAS, San Leandro would stand to receive over $3.7 million for local park and <br />recreation projects if Measure WW is approved by voters. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE to <br />support Measure WW. <br />Introduced by Councilmember and passed and adopted this <br />6~' day of October, 2008 by the following called vote: <br />Members of the Council: <br />AYES: <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br />ATTEST: <br />Marian Handa, City Clerk <br />
