RELATING TO THE SENIOR CENTER PHASE 2 <br />IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT NO. 06-210-18-116 <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of a contractual services agreement with Applied Materials and <br />Engineering, Inc. in the amount of $74,658 to provide construction administration and project <br />closeout services for the subject project. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Senior Center project consists of a 21,000 square foot building capable of supporting <br />existing and future senior citizen programs and functioning as the City's Emergency Operations <br />Center as needed. The City has recently awarded the contract for construction of Phase 2 <br />improvements to Alten Construction, Inc. Construction is expected to start in Winter 2008 and <br />continue for sixteen months. <br />Analysis <br />Special inspection services for material and construction testing of critical building components <br />are required by building codes and the City of San Leandro Building Regulations. Applied <br />Materials and Engineering (AME) was selected for this work because it is on the list of approved <br />special inspection firms for the City's Building Department and has satisfactorily worked on <br />several past City projects, including: the San Leandro History Museum; Washington Manor Pool <br />Facility; and Washington Manor Library. <br />Current City Council Policy <br />Not Applicable <br />
