IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO RESOLUTION N0.2008-120 (1081) RESOLUTION COMMENDING SHELIA YOUNG AND DESIGNATING HER MAYOR EMERITUS WHEREAS, Shelia Young served as Mayor of the City of San Leandro from 1998 - 2006; and WHEREAS, Ms. Young was the only female Mayor to serve two complete terms in office in the history of San Leandro, and she carried out those duties with zeal, loyalty and skill, bringing to fruition countless projects and civic improvements that have benefitted all who live, work and visit San Leandro; and WHEREAS, Ms. Young strengthened City relationships with local business leaders, school officials, nonprofit organizations, outside legislative officials, and regional and national entities, reinforcing San Leandro's reputation and good standing as an active, forward-thinking community; and WHEREAS, through these associations and her representation of the City of San Leandro on several regional and national boards, agencies and committees, Ms. Young positioned the City of San Leandro to receive numerous grants and funding resources enabling the City to accomplish numerous important civic improvements; and WHEREAS, throughout her years of dedicated service to the City of San Leandro, Ms. Young presided over one of the largest building periods in San Leandro's history, always keeping the best interests of the community as her goal; and WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro would like to honor Shelia Young in recognition of her leadership, political expertise, enthusiasm and dedication to the improvement of the quality of life in San Leandro. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as follows: In recognition of the foregoing, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does hereby commend Shelia Young for her years of dedicated service, and bestows upon her the title of Mayor Emeritus with all benefits such title carries and with respect and admiration from the City she has served so well.
