Hollister Interim City Manager RESOLUTION AMENDING TITLE 1, CHAPTER 10, § 1.10.110 OF THE SAN LEANDRO ADMINISTRATIVE CODE RELATING TO NAMING/RENAMING FACILITIES SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION The City Council Rules and Communications Committee reviewed the existing policy for naming/renaming City facilities. The Committee recommends that the City Council revise the policy to add a requirement that there be awell-defined connection between the contributions of the individual and the property or facility that will bear the individual's name. BACKGROUND On July 3, 2008, the City Council Rules and Communications Committee discussed the Council's current policy for naming/renaming City facilities, which is codified in Title 1, Chapter 10 of the City's Administrative Code. It was noted during the Committee's discussion of the item that, in the past, a facility has been named for a person who had little connection to the facility. The Committee agreed that there should be a nexus between the contributions of the individual and the facility or structure to be named/renamed, and that the policy should be revised to add this requirement. At its September 4, 2008 meeting, the Committee reviewed the proposed revisions to the current policy, and recommended that they be forwarded to the full City Council. Current City Council Policy Title 1, Chapter 10, San Leandro Administrative Code Previous City Council Action(s) On December 21, 1998, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 98-164, adding Chapter 10 to Title 1 of the San Leandro Administrative Code Regarding Naming/Renaming Facilities.
