MINUTES Page 14
City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-March 5, 2007
Vice Mayor Grant commented on the problem of vehicles for sale being parked on city
streets, particularly in the area of 143rd and East 14~' Street: She noted that residents have
been asking her what can be done to address the problem. Vice Mayor Grant asked whether
the issue could be referred to a Council committee.
Vice Mayor Grant commented on the statements made by Peggy Combs earlier in the
meeting. She indicated that she is one of three members on the Council that are not
comfortable with the School District's plans for a ninth grade academy. Vice Mayor Grant
requested either a work session or a Council Committee discussion on the City's position on
the Measure B funded projects. She commented on the lack of circulation of the notices for
the public meetings to discuss the Measure B proj ects and the need to provide direction to the
City staff that will be participating in the meetings. Vice Mayor Grant expressed a preference
for discussing the issues at a meeting other than the City and San Leandro School District
Liaison Committee meeting, as the committee meets too infrequently.
Mayor Santos pointed out that the City and San Leandro School District Liaison Committee
will be meeting within the next couple of weeks, and the issues can be discussed at that
meeting. Vice Mayor Grant asked if the City Council could take a position on the Measure B
projects. City Attorney Williams confirmed that the City Council could take a formal
position on the Measure B projects. _
Councilmember Souza corrunented on the importance of communication and ensuring that
the voices of constituents are heard. She stated that she would continue to advocate for better
communication, and she would like community members to be engaged and feel free to voice
their opinions.
Councilmember Prola announced for the benefit of the audience that the Marina Committee
will meet on March 20, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., and the public is invited to come and share their
opinions with the Committee.
13. ADJOURN
The meeting was adjourned at 9:14 p.m.
_ RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED:
MARIAN IfANDA
City Clerk of the City of San Leandro
