Our partnership on the joint use of parks at school sites, the
assignment of police officers to our secondary schools and the recent
transformation of the field at Bancroft Middle School under the construction
management of the City have been of tremendous benefit to our students and
all San Leandrans.
The City's recent commitment of $2.3M in Redevelopment Agency (RDA) funds
for the construction of the 9th Grade Campus is greatly appreciated. It will
help underwrite the cost of the new gymnasium and assist the District in
paying for the additional costs associated with the design changes to the
campus requested by the City which the District implemented.
Accordingly, the District wishes to formalize through a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) the City's agreement to operate the gymnasium at the
campus as a joint-use facility.
To recap the history of this project, it began in November 2006, San Leandro
voters approved a $109 million school facilities bond to reduce overcrowding
at the high school through several new construction projects, including the
construction of a new 9~h grade campus and gymnasium, an arts education
center that contains a theater for school and community use, a new district
parking lot on the former PG&E lot, an expansion of the high school library,
and renovation of the Career Technical Education Building. From the
beginning, the City has served as an active partner in the design of these
projects, with at minimum 8 representatives serving on various design
committees (Sally Barros and Hansom Hom on the 9~h Grade Campus
Conceptual Design Team) and the Measure B Steering Committee (Sally
Barros and Reh-Lin Chen] .
14735 Juniper Street, San Leandro, CA 94579
Tel: 510-667-3522 www.sanleandro.kl2.caus Fax: 510-678-8833
