Alcohol Ban
December 1, 2008
heightened by alcohol use impact other park users as well as neighbors, and the cities and
districts surrounding the City of San Leandro ban alcohol use.
Summary of Public Outreach Efforts
Problems of park use and the possibility of banning alcohol use in parks were placed on the
agenda at the following Recreation and Park Commission meetings; which are noticed and open
to the public: June 4, 2008; July 9, 2008; September 3, 2008 and October 1, 2008.
Fiscal Impact
None
Budget Authority
Not applicable
Attachments
• Attachment A: San Leandro Municipal Code Section 1-12-200, Criminal Enforcement of
Code Violations
• Attachment B: Proposed Amendments to San Leandro Municipal Code Chapter 4-1, Article
7, Alcohol Beverages
CONCLUSION
San Leandro has beautiful parks that are well maintained and a benefit to the community. Good
parks reflect a strong, caring community. We want people to continue using our parks for
exercising, celebrating, bringing family and friends together and enjoying being outside. Staff
believes that banning the use of alcohol in City park and open space areas will reduce excessive
noise, parking issues and other conflict between park users and neighbors, thereby reducing the
number of calls for assistance to the police and enhancing the positive experience of all the park
users.
