Hollister <br />Interim City Manager <br />BY: Kenneth Joseph, City Engineer , !1~ <br />Engineering and Transportation Department's ~` <br />;: <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING GRANT FUND AGREEMENT WITH THE ALAMEDA <br />COUNTY WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY RELATING TO THE SENIOR CENTER <br />PHASE 2 IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT NO. 06-210-18-116 <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of a grant fund agreement with the Alameda County Waste <br />Management Authority (ACWMA) to provide grant reimbursement of up to $85,000, depending <br />on the final building LEED certification and implementation of Bay-Friendly Landscaping <br />recommendations. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Senior Center project consists of a 21,000 square foot building capable of supporting <br />existing and future senior citizen programs and functioning as the City's Emergency Operations <br />Center as needed. The City recently awarded the contract for construction of the Phase 2 <br />improvements to Alten Construction, Inc. Construction of the building started in November <br />2008 and is expected to continue into 2010. <br />Analysis <br />Pursuant to flee Alameda County Integrated Waste Management Plan ("Plan"), ACWMA collects <br />fees to reduce the amount of solid waste disposed in landfills by encouraging reduced use, reuse, <br />composting, and recycling. The grant funds on this project are for implementing design changes <br />that reduce the amount of construction waste and future landscaping greenwaste. <br />Current City Council Policy <br />Not Applicable <br />
