CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS thth Councilmember Grant commented that the timing of the traffic signal at 138 and East 14 Streets effectively regulates the flow of traffic. Councilmember Starosciak commented that she and Mayor Santos interviewed the YAC members for the Shoreline Development Citizens Advisory Committee. The three members chosen were Tina Kuang, Victor Chen and Victoria Robles. Since the Council previously approved the appointment of two members, an item will be brought to Council to approve the third member. Councilmember Starosciak commented that it might be a good time to consider combining the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustments. There was consensus of the Council to refer the matter to the City Council Rules and Communications Committee. th Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the 9 Grade Academy; the Service Awards Dinner for City employees; and the Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon. Councilmember Prola commented that he and his son volunteered at San Leandro Community Church to serve Thanksgiving dinner to over 100 homeless community members. He thanked the people who made the Thanksgiving events possible. Councilmember Prola commented on a news article on the federal stimulus package that will provide funding for transportation infrastructure projects, and suggested that the City be poised to request funds. Vice Mayor Stephens amed several of ojects that can be considered for funding. th Councilmember Souza commented that she attended the 9 Grade Academy groundbreaking; the San Leandro Hospital meeting; the Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon; and the Service Awards Dinner. She inquired about the status of the updates to the Recreation and Parks Commission (RAPC) ordinance, and the appointment of the San Lorenzo School District Representative to the RAPC. Mayor Santos commented that he attended the successful Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon. He indicated that he would work hard to secure federal infrastructure funding for the City. Mayor Santos gave a short summary on the San Leandro Hospital situation, and stated that the San Leandro Hospital Board is in the process of forming a citizens advisory committee. He asked if members of the Council might be interested in participating on the committee, and indicated that Councilmember-elect Reed has expressed interest. Mayor Santos commented that he would like to form a Measure WW ad hoc committee to identify and prioritize potential projects. Councilmembers Starosciak, Souza and Gregory were appointed to the ad hoc committee. Mayor Santos commented that he received a Christmas card from the Governor of the Azores. in memory of Ernest Catone Jr, who was a Building Facilities Manager and 43-year employee of the City of San Leandro; Marie Xavier, a longtime member of IDES and other Portuguese groups, who was
