DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 14 <br />December 15, 2008 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />opinion was issued. Her office will issue a supplement to the original legal <br />opinion. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented on the discussion regarding recognizing former Mayor <br />Emeritus Valance Gill. It was suggested that the Downtown Plaza be named for <br />Mayor Gill; however the Plaza has already been named after Lee Bruner. The <br />Committee will need to revisit the subject. <br /> <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant congratulated newly-appointed City Manager Steve Hollister. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak thanked Councilmember Grant for her 10 years on the City <br />Council, and for her many years of service to the community. She congratulated Mr. Hollister <br />on his appointment. Councilmember Starosciak commented that she attended the Board and <br />Commission Holiday Party and the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. She introduced Ms. <br />Knudtson and Interim Police Chief Ian Willis at the San Leandro Breakfast Club, where they <br />gave a presentation on the alcohol ban in City parks. Councilmember Starosciak attended a <br />presentation on the San Leandro Crossings project at the Washington Manor Homeowners <br />Association meeting. She noted that no opposition to the project was raised at the meeting. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the holiday mixer at Manor Branch <br />Library, and he hoped that the Mulford-Marina Branch would be considered for <br />improvements when improvements are made at the Marina. He attended the Tree Lighting <br />Ceremony, the Board and Commission Holiday Party, and the San Leandro Police Officers <br />Association dinner at the Englander. Councilmember Prola thanked Councilmember Grant <br />for her service to the City, and he congratulated Mr. Hollister on his appointment. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Stephens congratulated Mr. Hollister, and expressed confidence in his leadership. <br />He commented on the Holiday Tree Lighting and the dancing angels from DC Dance Studio. <br />Vice Mayor Stephens thanked Councilmember Grant for her service on the City Council. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza attended the Board and Commission Holiday Party, the Holiday Tree <br />Lighting Ceremony, and the initial meeting of the Shoreline Development Citizens Advisory <br />Committee. She congratulated Mr. Hollister on his appointment, and Councilmembers <br />Starosciak and Prola on being sworn in for another term on the Council. Councilmember <br />Souza thanked Councilmember Grant for the camaraderie, and for sharing her knowledge, <br />wisdom and inspiration. <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory added his congratulations to the new City Manager. He provided <br />remarks at the Second Annual Green Building Conference, and attended the Fire Commission <br />holiday event along with Councilmember Souza. Councilmember Gregory remarked that <br />Councilmember Grant makes San Leandro the kind of place he is proud to live in, and she has <br />inspired him to become a better community leader. <br /> <br /> <br />
