PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />Public Comments are limited to 3 minutes per speaker, subject to adjustment by the Mayor. <br />fill out a speaker card <br />When you address the City Council, you should and submit it to the <br />City Clerk so the order of speakers may be determined and an official record of names and <br />NOT <br />addresses obtained. The public is invited to make comments on items of public interest <br />listed on the Agenda. <br /> <br />Scott Terry, San Leandro resident <br />, addressed the City Council, commenting on his <br />discovery that it is illegal in most parts of the city to keep chickens and bees. Mr. Terry <br />expressed his support for allowing these animals to be kept within the city limits. <br /> <br />Members of the Easthills 4-H Club <br />addressed the City Council regarding their Poultry <br />Clay Ferguson <br />Project, which teaches its participants to care for and raise poultry. Member <br />requested that the City Council consider Municipal Code Section <br />3-5-100, which currently forbids the keeping of chickens in residential and business districts. <br />Jack Boreczky <br />Member commented on the long history of chickens in San Leandro, and on <br />Claudia Nute <br />related to keeping chickens. Member suggested a <br />nance to allow chickens, which could: include a proximity rule, a <br />limit on the number of chickens, and a ban on roosters; require a permit for selling eggs; and <br />include special provisions for 4-H and other clubs raising livestock, such as waiver of permit <br />fees. <br /> <br /> <br /> 6. CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND COMMENTS <br /> <br />City Manager Steve Hollister indicated that City staff would look into the possibility of <br />amending the ordinance relating to chickens. He added that if the matter is referred to the <br />Planning Commission and/or a City Council committee, the speakers would be informed of <br />upcoming meetings on the subject. <br /> <br />City Attorney Jayne Williams stated that she would work with the City Manager and staff on <br />the issue. <br /> <br /> <br /> 7. AMENDMENT OF CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br />City Councilmembers or staff have an opportunity at this time to request that an item be <br />removed from the Consent Calendar for the presentation of a staff report or other special <br />consideration. Members of the Public may request the opportunity to address the City <br />Council regarding items remaining on the Consent Calendar by filling out a speaker card and <br /> <br />
