Hollister <br />City Manager <br />Kathy Ornelas, Community Relations Representative <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND ENDORSING ALAMEDA COUNTY'S <br />PARTICIPATION 1N THE 2010 CAMPAIGN FOR ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />It is recommended that the City support and endorse Alameda County's participation in the 2010 <br />Campaign for Active Transportation. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Analysis <br />The Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority (ACTIA) is working on a <br />legislative effort to increase the funding portion for non-motorized transportation in the <br />upcoming federal transportation bill. The aim is to draw $50 million into Alameda County to <br />support walking and cycling access to transit, urban greenways, Safe Routes to Schools and Safe <br />Routes for Seniors. City Councilmernber Gregory represents San Leandro on a Steering <br />Committee of elected officials for this effort. <br />Alameda County, many of the Cities in the county and numerous transit agencies and non-profit <br />organizations have endorsed the County's participation in the Campaign. <br />Current City Council Policy <br />For a number of years, the City has been working- to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety <br />throughout the community through a variety of programs and infrastructure projects. <br />Previous City Council Action(s) <br />On December 1, 2008, the City Council passed Resolution 2008-141, endorsing the San Leandro <br />Safe Routes to School program sponsored by ACTIA. <br />City Council Committee Review and Action <br />None <br />
