appreciation of the offer but expressed his concern over loss of `green space' in San Leandro and <br />would like to increase green space in San Leandro overall. Mayor Santos commented on Sen. <br />Feinstein's interest in regional projects and noted that 28% of San Leandro students attend <br />SLzUSD. Council Member Gregory suggested bringing Alameda County to the table for input <br />on a larger facility or complex. Board Member Mack-Rose stated her interest in a presentation <br />by the developer; would like to see what fmancing or leasing options are available; and would be <br />favorable to keeping the sports complex in SLUSD. Board Member Hague asked for historic <br />information related to facility use costs at Burrell and SLzUSD. Mr. Hollister clarified that the <br />shopping center developer could make a future presentation and that the San Leandro Sports <br />Foundation also provide some input. <br />4. Update on the San Leandro Education Foundation <br />Debra Cox, president of the newly formed nonprofit San Leandro Education Foundation, was <br />introduced. Ms. Cox provided an overview of the foundation and why it has been created. It is <br />in the process of developing; many meetings have occurred with school staff, parents, Chamber <br />of Commerce, teachers, and administration. The goal is to provide funds to the district for <br />additional programs or enhancements; during a time when school districts are receiving less state <br />funding, the hopes are to provide more funds from the community to the schools. They held <br />their first community meeting on January 12th where approximately 50 people participated. The <br />next steps are to develop a strategic plan. There is a strong desire to get people involved and <br />represented throughout the entire community. Council Member Gregory encouraged them to go <br />directly to the HOA's to talk about their purpose and mission; Chair Katz-Lacabe concurred and <br />said there may be funding for programs and scholarships. <br />S. Update on San Leandro High School Swimming Pool <br />High School Facilities Manager Greg Dyer was introduced and provided an update on the pool. <br />The high capacity pump is being installed; they will meet the February 1St deadline. There was <br />general discussion on the total cost of renovation as being approximately $1.5 million; they may <br />operate for the next 4 years in this capacity per Alameda County Health Department. Mayor <br />Santos commented on the Measure WW funds which will be discussed by an Ad Hoc committee <br />of the City Council; he also stated that SLzUSD offered to help pay for the Manor Pool <br />construction; he stated that he would like to see both pools completed. Board Member Mack- <br />Rose commented that she would like to see more partnership between the City and District <br />regarding the use of WW funds; she would like the district to be involved early in the process. <br />Council Member Reed asked for clarification regarding the district's request for assistance with <br />the SLHS pool. Mr. Katz-Lacabe stated he believed it would be a joint effort and the City would <br />not be asked to pay for the entire renovation. The Mayor suggested they look at all sources of <br />funds. <br />6. Committee Member Comments <br />Board Member Hague expressed her pleasure at serving on this committee and working with the <br />City; she commented on several joint use projects underway and for the future, perhaps using <br />some stimulus funds together. <br />
