MINiJTES Page 8 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-February 2, 2009 <br />Mayor Santos reported that, now that the Alameda County Waste Management <br />Authority has hired an executive director, it has turned its attention toward fmding an <br />attorney. <br />B. Reports on Conferences and Seminars <br />Councilmember Prola reported that he attended the Alameda County and Cities Climate <br />Forum. He noted that much of the information presented is applicable to the City's <br />TOD project. <br />Councilmember Gregory reported that he and Councilmember Starosciak attended the <br />Local Government Commission-sponsored monthly TOD dinner series meeting. The <br />meetings are funded by the San Francisco Foundation, and the most recent meeting <br />drew a wide array of East Bay city managers and elected officials. <br />Councihnember Starosciak quoted the following statistics from the TOD dinner series <br />presentation: between 1996 and 2006, the average number of retirees per year was <br />300,000; between 2015 and 2025, that number is expected to grow five-fold, to 1.7 <br />million per year; and by 2025, the number ofnon-child households will be 72%. <br />C. Reports on Empowerment Funds <br />Councilmember Prola reported that he will be submitting requests for Community <br />Empowerment Fund contributions for CALICO Center and San Leandro Education <br />Foundation. <br />D. Reports on City Council Committees <br />1. Business and Housing Development Committee Meeting of January 8, 2009. <br />Accepted as submitted. <br />Councilmember Souza pointed out that there is a process and applications for <br />appointments to the new Redevelopment Advisory Committee. <br />2. City and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of <br />January 15, 2009. Accepted as submitted. <br />Recommendation for City Council Consideration: <br />a. Schedule a public hearing at the City and San Leandro Unified School <br />District joint meeting on February 9, 2009 to consider agreements relating to <br />the 9th Grade Academy. <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br />
