CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS Councilmember Gregory commented that he attended the most recent meeting of the San Leandro Sports Foundation, which was also attended by Councilmembers Starosciak and Prola. He also attended Supervisor meeting, at which funding for Safe Routes to Schools was discussed, and the most recent meeting in the TOD dinner series. Councilmember Gregory commented that, based on Mayor Santos leadership on the 50 Million Pound Challengealk on May 19 at Bancroft field. Councilmember Souza commented on the March 23 budget work session, noting that the Council proposes funding cuts to other social service agencies, while at the same time providing $500,000 to the DSFRC. She expressed interest in minimizing the cuts to the other service agencies as well. Councilmember Souza also expressed concern regarding the serious cuts to library services, school crossing guards, and recreation programs. Councilmember Prola commented on a proposed resolution for the United Steel Workers. He reported on a meeting of the Small Business Task Force, at which some small businesses expressed concern about the amount attention they received from the Chamber of Commerce. Councilmember Prola commented on the Waste Management Neighborhood forum, and on th Senator Corbett Robin Torrello as 10 Senatorial District Woman of the Year. He commented that he attended the Washington Manor Little League parade, the census meeting at the Library, the last rally at Valley Power, and the San Leandro Sports Foundation meeting. Councilmember Prola gave a presentation to the Lavender Seniors on volunteer service on City boards and commissions. He requested that the subject of project labor agreements be referred to the appropriate City Council committee. Councilmember Starosciak commented that she and her children appreciated participating in Earth Hour. She concurred with Councilmember Souzaregarding the proposed budget cuts, stating that she would like the cuts to be made more fairly and equitably, with some consideration given to the Community Assistance grant-funded agencies, library programs, and City departments. Councilmember Starosciak stated that she attended the funeral service for the fallen Oakland police officers, and she expressed appreciation to the San Leandro Police Department for their volunteer participation and contributions to Oakland PD in their time of grief. She requested that Coach Rick Bailey, who s baseball coach. Councilmember Reed commented that she attended the Washington Manor Little League Parade, and expressed amazement at the number of events attended by Councilmember Prola. Councilmember Reed agreed with Councilmember Souza regarding the funding for Community Assistance grant-funded agencies, and stated that she would like to see equity with regard to these groups. She would like to hear more about the possibility of a library services assessment district, noting that the proposed use of elf insurance fund is a one-time fix. Councilmember Reed attended the funeral for the four fallen Oakland police officers, and will be participating in a police ride-along tomorrow.
