DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 12 <br />April 20, 2009 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />cuts, such as the closure of Farrelly Pool, the loss of school crossing guards, specific library <br />programs, etc. She commented that she would rather see the $250,000 proposed to restore <br />library services used to restore other services as well. Councilmember Souza thanked the <br />newcomers who are unfamiliar with the rules for speaking, and she requested that an <br />announcement be made during the meting to clarify the rules for submitting speaker cards. <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory echoed the sentiments of his colleagues regarding Farrelly Pool. <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that he attended a meeting of a committee convened by <br />Supervisor Lai-Bitker. Supervisor Lai-Bitker has some discretionary funds that will be used <br />to supplement the Safe Routes to Schools program. These funds will be used to hire a part- <br />time person to promote the program in Supervisorial District 3 schools. Councilmember <br />Gregory commented that, due to reports that San Leandro Hospital might be closing, he and <br />others are calling for an urgent town hall meeting to discuss health care in Alameda County. <br />The meeting has been set for Wednesday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber. <br />Michael Mahoney, the CEO of St. Rose Hospital, as already confirmed his attendance, and <br />other impacted agencies will also be invited. Councilmember Gregory pointed out that the <br />hospital is a large employer in San Leandro, and he stated that he believed the City should <br />take a role in exploring ways to protect those jobs. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos recalled several pools in the City that have been closed over the years, <br />including Thrasher and John Muir. He commented that the Alameda County Transportation <br />Improvement Authority (ACTIA) is looking at the way Safe Routes to Schools funding is <br />dispersed. Mayor Santos noted the low attendance at the last Coffee with the Mayor session, <br />and will wait until June to hold the next one. He commented that the City does not have <br />jurisdiction over San Leandro Hospital, and that the decision rests with the Eden Township <br />Hospital Board and the County Board of Supervisors. Mayor Santos urged the Eden Board to <br />come up with a plan for San Leandro Hospital, and there are discussions going on between <br />the Eden Board and Sutter. He commented that the issues are more complex than most <br />people realize. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos announced <br />Eva Wilson, a resident of San Lorenzo and a swim instructor for 50 years for the City of San <br />Leandro. <br /> <br /> <br />13.
