BFL Landscaping, the last piece of an integrated approach toward Green Building,
consists of design, construction and maintenance. It will be collaboration between
Community Development, Engineering and Transportation and Public Works.
Some Public Works staff are BFL trained and qualified and Sally will be working closely
with them to maintain the guidelines set forth by Stopwaste. Stopwaste will also be
providing technical training, as well as training for design and engineering in the next
fiscal year. Teresa Eades is the Senior Program Manager.
Sally noted the need to put this effort into place by June 30, 2009 to receive Mitigation
Funds. Sally is scheduled to go to Council on May 4, 2009 with an Ordinance. Sally
said if we do not utilize this program, we could potentially lose $80,000 in funds, which
currently pays for many of the City recycling programs.
Councilmember Souza asked whether, if the Ordinance is approved, it open up the
program and funding to residents. Mike Bakaldin said that Mitigation Funds can only be
used for certain kinds of programs and that each funding source is unique and
requirements need to be looked at.
Mayor Santos mentioned that Ohlone College has 70 acres of Green Building, which is
rated LEED Platinum. Sally added that she will be hosting a meeting on Green Building
in June 2009. Information will go out in a bulletin.
4.
