Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council Meeting <br />January 19, 1999 <br />Page 4 <br />Council Member Loeffler concluded his comments by indicating he has been on <br />vacation in Alaska and that it is good to be back. <br />4. Council Member Glaze asked when the Work Session regarding the Flood <br />Control District would be taking place. He indicated he thought it would be <br />happening in 7anuary but has not seen it scheduled as of yet. Staff responded <br />that they will check into the matter and report back to the Council as to when <br />that item will be scheduled for Work Session. <br />Council Member Glaze said there were comments made about the recent one- <br />way-street issue that was recently heard by the Planning Commission, and he <br />indicated the City Council had referred that issue to them. Staff responded that <br />the issue has not come to the Council yet and that the process, as previously <br />discussed by the Council, was for the Planning Commission to hear such items <br />prior to them coming to the City Council for action. <br />5. Council Member Grant commented that she has information regarding <br />Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) grants for transportation for <br />livable communities. The deadline for filing for the grants is February 23, <br />1999. She will pass the information on to City staff. <br />Council Member Grant continued by commenting that she had attended a rally <br />in San Francisco honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., and wanted to pass on to <br />the Council a quote by Rev. Fredrick Douglas Haynes, III, which was, "You <br />can't have afirst-class city if you treat people assecond-class citizens and have <br />them live in third-world situations." <br />6. Mayor Young reported on her attendance at the Alta Mira Club Annual Crab <br />Feed last Saturday. She indicated it was a very enjoyable event. <br />6. CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Consent Calendar items are typically routine in nature and are considered for approval <br />by the City Council with one single action. The City Council may remove items from <br />the Consent Calendar for purposes of discussion. Items listed on the Consent <br />Calendar are deemed to have been read by title. <br />The Consent Calendar was approved as follows: <br />M/S/C Loetller and Glaze.
