NImutes -City of San Leandro City Council and Page 15 <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting -- May 17, 1999 <br />Janice Linver, Board Member for the San Leandro Shelter for Women and <br />Children, 1527 - 140` Avenue, addressed the City Council in support of the <br />request to allow the safe house in a residential community. She shared her story as <br />a battered wife and mother and urged the City Council's support for their Appeal. <br />Doris Desoto, 555 Joaquin Avenue, addressed the City Council in support of <br />allowing the safe house to be in a residential neighborhood. <br />Lorraine Perez, 1536 - 140` Avenue, addressed the City Council and indicated <br />she comes from a battered family and was battered by her husband. She stated her <br />support for the safe house in a residential community and urged the City Council's <br />support for the Appeal. <br />Mayor Young closed the public comment portion and indicated the necessity of <br />this issue being addressed at the City Council level this evening. She further <br />stated she feels it is imperative society take note of the fact that domestic violence <br />needs to be treated no differently than alcoholism and drug addiction in our <br />community. <br />The following Resolution was then introduced: <br />-- Resolution No. 99-73, Resolution Interpreting the Definition of "Family" in <br />the San Leandro Zoning Code to Include a "Safe House." (2167/2781) <br />M/5/C Lothrop and Nardine. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br />C. Minute Order No. 99-32, Matter of Appointments to the West San <br />Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard Redevelopment Advisory Committee (RAC) (fills <br />three, existing vacancies on the RAC). (1156) <br />The City Council approved the following appointments to the West San <br />Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard Redevelopment Advisory Committee (RAC), <br />who will represent the area adjacent to the project area. <br />Donald Bruzzone -- West 5L Property Owner <br />Mike Boyle -- MacArthur Blvd Property Owner <br />Francis Hilliard -- MacArthur Blvd Business <br />M/S/C Lothrop and Loeffler. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br />D. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. <br />None <br />
