NImutes -City of San Leandro City Council and Page 15 San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting -- May 17, 1999 Janice Linver, Board Member for the San Leandro Shelter for Women and Children, 1527 - 140` Avenue, addressed the City Council in support of the request to allow the safe house in a residential community. She shared her story as a battered wife and mother and urged the City Council's support for their Appeal. Doris Desoto, 555 Joaquin Avenue, addressed the City Council in support of allowing the safe house to be in a residential neighborhood. Lorraine Perez, 1536 - 140` Avenue, addressed the City Council and indicated she comes from a battered family and was battered by her husband. She stated her support for the safe house in a residential community and urged the City Council's support for the Appeal. Mayor Young closed the public comment portion and indicated the necessity of this issue being addressed at the City Council level this evening. She further stated she feels it is imperative society take note of the fact that domestic violence needs to be treated no differently than alcoholism and drug addiction in our community. The following Resolution was then introduced: -- Resolution No. 99-73, Resolution Interpreting the Definition of "Family" in the San Leandro Zoning Code to Include a "Safe House." (2167/2781) M/5/C Lothrop and Nardine. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 C. Minute Order No. 99-32, Matter of Appointments to the West San Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard Redevelopment Advisory Committee (RAC) (fills three, existing vacancies on the RAC). (1156) The City Council approved the following appointments to the West San Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard Redevelopment Advisory Committee (RAC), who will represent the area adjacent to the project area. Donald Bruzzone -- West 5L Property Owner Mike Boyle -- MacArthur Blvd Property Owner Francis Hilliard -- MacArthur Blvd Business M/S/C Lothrop and Loeffler. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 D.
