I want to assure you that under no circumstances has the importance of this issue <br />escaped my attention. <br />As you all know whenever this issue has surfaced over the past few years, I have always <br />staunchly opposed removing the ban. <br />I can not sec how diverting big rigs to the highway would be of any benefit to the <br />neighbors or the commuters. Nor do I feel that it would be a viable solution for the traffic <br />problems on our other major arterial -Interstate 880. <br />Y assure you as soon as the rumors began to surface that Cal Trans was considering the <br />study of I-580, I directed my staff to begin looking into it. <br />Claudette Langley brought in Paul Hensley from Cal Trans for a lengthy mxting and was <br />given the most up-to-date information he had at the time. Hensley informed my office <br />today that he has secured the funding for the study and that it is scheduled to begin in <br />either July or August. <br />In addition to meeting with Cal Trans, my district office is m the process of organising a <br />town hall rr-eeting with the transportation agency here in San Laandro. We are hoping to <br />have the mooting before the end of the month and will keep you posted as the plans <br />unfold. <br />sincerely, <br />~~~ <br />Ellen M.
