Harold Perez, 2052 Vestal Court, addressed the City Council and thanked Kathy <br />Ornelas, John Jermanis, and Officer Overton for getting unregistered cars towed <br />from his street. He made further comments on the amount of cars parked on <br />properties in his neighborhood, crime, vandalism, and the number of persons <br />occupying the garage of a residence close to his home. <br />G. Marcia Johnson, 794 Estudillo Avenue, addressed the City Council and spoke <br />regarding Group Homes. She stressed the necessity to look at the overall issue. <br />H. Laverne Anderson, 1495 - 159` Avenue, addressed the City Council, giving <br />special thanks to Sue Simms for getting the weeds down from property he had <br />called about, as well as at the Veterinary Hospital. He noted next Sunday at 1:00 <br />p.m. there will be a Flag Ceremony at the Veteran's Building. He concluded by <br />commenting on noise problems in his neighborhood recently and the lack of <br />response from the County Sheriff s Office. <br />I. Kathryn Hughes, 250 Ogawa Plaza, Oakland, addressed the City Council in <br />support of Item 7.E (regarding the bike lanes) and commended the City for leading <br />the way in the region. <br />J. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the City Council regarding the <br />Women's Shelter and stated it should have been listed as a Public Hearing. He <br />clarified that the May 1T~ Minutes should reflect that he opposes the "misuse" of <br />speaker cards. He commented further on the way his comments were reflected <br />regarding the "Letter to the Editor" and concluded by stating people should be <br />able to comment after the fact when the City Council discusses something. <br />K. Edward Fields, 1180 Begier Avenue, addressed the City Council, stating no one <br />has spoken regarding the importance of such a Shelter and the need to be in a <br />single-family, residential neighborhood. He also stated his support for Item 6.B, <br />which provides fora $180,000 deferred loan of CDBG funds for the acquisition of <br />a residential property to be used for a safe house for women and children. <br />L. Larry Smith, 958 Arguello Drive, addressed the City Council regarding the <br />privatization of garbage services. He noted the current garbage service provided <br />by City workers is San Leandro's best and most visible service the City provides. <br />He stated he would rather see the City Manager and City Attorney's Offices <br />privatized, instead. He concluded by volunteering to be on the Citizens' Refuse <br />Committee and stated the City should obtain as much input as they can on this <br />issue. <br />M. Ellen Geis, 834 Cary Drive, addressed the City Council regarding parking <br />difficulties at the City Civic Center and the definition for zoning group homes <br />within the City of San Leandro. She concluded by stating she, too, feels the issue <br />should have been a Public Hearing. <br />
