There was a suggestion that there
be Work Sessions scheduled with the various Boards and Commissions on a
regular basis to keep them informed. It was suggested that the Rules and
Communications Committee come up with a plan to address that concern. It
was also suggested that the Rules and Communications Committee get feedback
from other cities on how they communicate with the Boards and Commissions.
Council Member Lothrop also commented that she and Mayor Young will be
attending a Smart Growth Conference on Nov. 17 through 19, 1999.
In conclusion, Council Member Lothrop commented on the fact that Steve
Emslie, Director of Development Services, will be leaving the City of San
Leandro to go to the City of San Jose as one of their Planning Directors. She
wished him well and thanked him for his service to the City of San Leandro.
She indicated that the City of San Jose is lucky to be getting him as an
employee.
6. Vice Mayor Galvan indicated that he also had attended the League of California
Cities Conference and remarked that other Council Members are dealing with
some of the same issues that San Leandro is, such as check cashing businesses,
noise ordinances and group home issues.
Vice Mayor Galvan also commented that Jack Maltester was honored with a
Lifetime Achievement Award and asked that the City Council recognize Jack
and Ruth Maltester at an upcoming City Council Meeting.
With regard to the Pirate Football Program, Vice Mayor Galvan commended
Council Member Nardine for her efforts in putting together a rally for the
football team on October 29, 1999. He suggested that the Mayor do a
proclamation for the Pirates proclaiming Oct. 29, 1999 to be "Pirates Day in San
Leandro."
7. CONSENT CALENDAR
Consent Calendar items are typically routine in nature and are considered for approval
by the City Council with one single action. The City Council may remove items from
the Consent Calendar for purposes of discussion.
