Reports on Conferences and Seminars <br />Councilmember Souza reported on her attendance at the League of California Cities' <br />Legislative Action Days, at which Governor Schwarzenegger gave a speech in support <br />of Propositions lA-1F. <br />C. Reports on Empowerment Funds <br />None. <br />D. Reports on City Council Committees <br />1. Civic and Cultural Committee Meeting of April 1, 2009. Accepted as submitted. <br />2. Rules and Communications Corrunittee Meeting of March 24, 2009. Accepted as <br />submitted. <br />Councilmember Souza commented that the Committee would be discussing the <br />issue of smoking regulations, and would welcome input on the topic. <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Reed commented that she participated in a Police ride along, and it gave her <br />insights into the work of the Department. She thanked the individuals who spoke out tonight <br />on the issue of San Leandro Hospital, and agreed with speaker Stephen Cassidy that the <br />Council should adopt a resolution in support of keeping the hospital's emergency room open. <br />Councilmember Prola expressed support for Councilmember Reed's comments regarding San <br />Leandro Hospital, and stated that he would like the Council to take a position on the matter as <br />soon as possible. Councilmember Prola commented that he attended Congressman Pete <br />Stark's April 7 meeting regarding stimulus funding; Coffee with the Mayor on April 9; the <br />Egg Hunt at the Marina and Volunteer Lunch on April 11, the Chamber of Commerce <br />Governmental Affairs meeting on April 13; the Friends of San Leandro Creek art exhibit on <br />April 14; and the Shoreline Cleanup and Waste Management Earth Day tour on April 18. <br />Vice Mayor Stephens asked staff to look into the Farrelly Pool issue raised by tonight's <br />speakers. Vice Mayor Stephens commented that, while he recognizes that it is difficult to <br />consider restoring items proposed for budget cuts, the closure of the pool would create an <br />inequity for the northwest side of town, since the southwest side has the Aquatics Center. <br />Councilmember Souza invited the Council to the Police Academy Graduation on May 6 at <br />7:00 p.m. at the Police Department, when she and Councilmember Starosciak will graduate <br />from the Academy. Councilmember Souza reported that she attended the Shoreline Cleanup <br />and the Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee meeting. Regarding the <br />proposed budget reductions, she commented that she supports keeping Farrelly Pool open, <br />and suggested that the Finance Committee look at the number of residents impacted by the <br />
