Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 4 -
San Leandro Economic Development Agency Joint Meeting - April 6, 1998
d. Louis Heystek, 2481 Marina Boulevard, addressed the Council as Chairman
of the Youth Advisory Commission. He reported on the recent Peace by
Piece Youth Summit and thanked members of the Council that were in
attendance.
e. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the Council, stating he
was glad to see the Public Hearing was postponed after all. He further
went on to express concerns with the School District and/or City being
involved in the farming of a PAC and with the proposed Youth Vote
Program. Mr. Filipovich also questioned and verified that the Standby
Officers Resolution proposed this evening will not affect the rights of
citizens during a disaster. He concluded by questioning how many units
are in the Heron Bay, Phase 2A-2 Tract; what will be the total amount of
units after the final phase has been completed; and will there be any
land left for building once it is completed.
f. Rick Richards, 335 Peralta Avenue, addressed the Council, noting the
Young San Leandrans PAC is not sponsored by the School District or the
City of San Leandro. He also commented that there is a Friends of the
Creek Arts Festival scheduled for April 18th, also, at Root Park, and
Council is invited to attend.
g. Lisa Dobey, Executive Director of the Calico Center, addressed the
Council, noting April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. She recognized
those Police Officers who investigate child abuse and work
collaboratively with Child Protective Services, Children's Hospital
Oakland, and the District Attorney's Office, to protect the child and
increase prosecution of child abusers. She concluded by thanking the
City for their support.
h. Laverne Anderson, 1495 - 159th Street, addressed the Council regarding
a portion of Fairway Drive, in the area of 1936 Fairway Drive, that has
a recently tarred portion of road that is now about 6 inches deep and
causes problems while traveling on Fairway. He also expressed concerns
with the continuance of weeds in the area across from Unisource. He
continued by commenting on the recent successful Youth Summit and noted
that issues of concern for the youth are that the City address needs for
a sports complex, a movie theater, a dance club, billiards, miniature
golf, and a voice in government. He concluded by stating, if the City
can spend millions on business, they could just as well spend it on our
children.
i. Mike McGee, PG&E Government Relations Representative, addressed the
Council and explained his role for PG&E. He commented that he is the
Public Affairs Manager for Alameda County and the competition for the
supply of electricity has now opened up. He clarified that PG&E is not
a part of the competition. The competition is with the "supply" end of
the business. PG&E will still be around and will be delivering the
power and ensuring proper and safe service.
