Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 13 - <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Meeting - April 20, 1998 <br />8. CITY COUNCIL REPORTS AND COMMENTS <br />A. Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies <br />1. Vice Mayor Loeffler reported on a recent Association of Bay Area <br />Governments (ABAG) Conference which dealt with issues regarding the <br />Segway Report, Urban Land Institute, and growth of the Bay area. He <br />noted a trends document that is available and commented on the issue <br />of setting urban boundaries. He noted the necessity to address the <br />City of San Leandro's General Plan soon. <br />2. Council Member Young thanked the Council and Mayor for their support <br />of her appointment to the new Alameda County Transportation <br />Improvement Authority, which is the Authority that will take over <br />when, hopefully, Measure B is reauthorized in June or November. She <br />noted she will be very pleased to serve for the next two years on <br />that board as the City of San Leandro's representative. <br />B. Reports on City Council Committees <br />(None) <br />C. City Council Comments <br />1. Council Member Lothrop commented on and congratulated the Youth <br />Advisory Commission (YAC) regarding their work on the upcoming Youth <br />Vote. She noted she is very impressed with the work they are doing. <br />She did ask that the Council re-examine the role of the YAC - are <br />they an advisory group, a policymaker's group, or one which plans <br />events? She would like clarification on their purviews. <br />In addition, Council Member Lothrop commented on the challenges in <br />the community as they relate to the School Board and the Council <br />working together to address issues of safety of our young people. <br />2. Vice Mayor Loeffler commented on the League of California Cities, <br />East Bay Division Meeting, at which a presentation regarding PG&E was <br />made regarding the reduction in franchise fees and utility-tax <br />income. <br />Vice Mayor Loeffler, also, commented on the excellent meeting <br />regarding Welfare-to-Work Reform, which took place today. He <br />referenced the position Berkeley recently took on the price of <br />gasoline in the Bay Area and would like to see the Council take the <br />same sort of stand. <br />Vice Mayor Loeffler concluded by thanking those persons who put on <br />the Watershed Awareness Festival, noting it was an excellent event. <br />3. Council Member Polvorosa commended the young people for introducing <br />their PAC last Saturday and noted they should be encouraged and <br />supported. <br />
