<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting Page - 4 - <br />June 29, 1998 <br />4. CITY COUNCIL CL05ING COMMENTS <br />A. Council Member Young made closing comments and stated it has been a <br />pleasure to serve with Council Member Polvorosa and Mayor Corbett. <br />B. Council Member Polvorosa made closing comments regarding his eight years <br />on the Council and how it has been an honor for him to serve the <br />community he loves so much. He commended the City Attorney and staff <br />for their assistance and congratulated incoming Mayor Young and the <br />other newly elected Council Members. <br />C. Council Member Glaze commended Council Member Polvorosa for his service <br />and noted he will be missed. He further commented on having served for <br />a long time with Mayor Corbett, noting she has never buckled under <br />pressure and that she sticks to what she believes in. He concluded by <br />stating Julian and Ellen stood up for him during a difficult time, and <br />he has always appreciated that. <br />D. Council Member Loeffler remarked on Council Member Polvorosa's <br />commitment to the community through his concerns regarding youth, <br />recreation, and safety of the citizens. He further commented that Mayor <br />Corbett has been a mentor and a leader, and he thanked her for her <br />commitment to the community. He commended both Julian and Ellen for <br />their service to the community. <br />E. Council Member Lothrop congratulated the newly elected officials. She <br />commented on how Julian has many wonderful attributes, including being <br />a gentleman, and being supportive, protective, kind, and courageous. <br />Council Member Lothrop added that Ellen has served the community well <br />and has been very competent, diplomatic, gracious, articulate, <br />passionate about the community, and honorable. She concluded by stating <br />that both individuals support young people in the community and she <br />wishes them well. <br />F. Mayor Corbett recalled her swearing in as the Mayor and remarked on how <br />privileged she has been to be able to serve this community. She thanked <br />her family and each member of the Council, individually, for their <br />unique qualities that they have brought to this governing board. She <br />thanked Vice Mayor Loeffler for his service under her as Vice Mayor and <br />stated that she admires his tenacity regarding the democratic process. <br />She continued by thanking the community and staff for their support. <br />She remarked about the many accomplishments that have been attained by <br />the community and the City. She concluded by stating she has learned to <br />never give up and how important it is to listen. She stated there is no <br />higher honor than having had the opportunity to serve this community as <br />the Mayor of San Leandro and that she wishes the new Council well and <br />she will miss everyone. <br />
