Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting Page - 4 - June 29, 1998 4. CITY COUNCIL CL05ING COMMENTS A. Council Member Young made closing comments and stated it has been a pleasure to serve with Council Member Polvorosa and Mayor Corbett. B. Council Member Polvorosa made closing comments regarding his eight years on the Council and how it has been an honor for him to serve the community he loves so much. He commended the City Attorney and staff for their assistance and congratulated incoming Mayor Young and the other newly elected Council Members. C. Council Member Glaze commended Council Member Polvorosa for his service and noted he will be missed. He further commented on having served for a long time with Mayor Corbett, noting she has never buckled under pressure and that she sticks to what she believes in. He concluded by stating Julian and Ellen stood up for him during a difficult time, and he has always appreciated that. D. Council Member Loeffler remarked on Council Member Polvorosa's commitment to the community through his concerns regarding youth, recreation, and safety of the citizens. He further commented that Mayor Corbett has been a mentor and a leader, and he thanked her for her commitment to the community. He commended both Julian and Ellen for their service to the community. E. Council Member Lothrop congratulated the newly elected officials. She commented on how Julian has many wonderful attributes, including being a gentleman, and being supportive, protective, kind, and courageous. Council Member Lothrop added that Ellen has served the community well and has been very competent, diplomatic, gracious, articulate, passionate about the community, and honorable. She concluded by stating that both individuals support young people in the community and she wishes them well. F. Mayor Corbett recalled her swearing in as the Mayor and remarked on how privileged she has been to be able to serve this community. She thanked her family and each member of the Council, individually, for their unique qualities that they have brought to this governing board. She thanked Vice Mayor Loeffler for his service under her as Vice Mayor and stated that she admires his tenacity regarding the democratic process. She continued by thanking the community and staff for their support. She remarked about the many accomplishments that have been attained by the community and the City. She concluded by stating she has learned to never give up and how important it is to listen. She stated there is no higher honor than having had the opportunity to serve this community as the Mayor of San Leandro and that she wishes the new Council well and she will miss everyone.
