Hollister
City Manager
Department
e
~~~~~ ~,~
TION:
RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND CALLING FOR BIDS
FOR WICKS BOULEVARD SIDEWALK PROJECT, PROJECT NO. 144-36-287 AND
APPROPRIATION OF MEASURE B BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN FUNDS IN THE
AMOUNT OF $95,000.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the plans and specifications and calls for bids for the subject
project and appropriation of Measure B Bicycle and Pedestrian funds in the amount of $95,000.
BACKGROUND
Currently, on the easterly side of Wicks Boulevard between Stenzel Park and Burkhart Avenue,
there is a gravel path that has become overgrown with ivy. This path is often used as a
pedestrian walkway for those who park there for events that are being held at the Marina
Community Center and Stenzel Park when those parking lots become full. However, this can be
hazardous as people may walk within the roadway to avoid the ivy ~ and gravelly path. Wicks
Boulevard at the Marina Community Center is a key location in the Pedestrian Project list in the
Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan as well as a location that benefits from the Sidewalk Gap
Closure Program.
ANALYSIS
The City has prepared plans to construct a sidewalk between Stenzel Park and Burkhart Avenue.
This Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalk will create a safer environment
for pedestrians. The sidewalk requires a small retaining wall, which needs additional funds for
completion. The initial estimate of $100,000 did not take into account the need for this wall or
the need for four new ADA ramps, hence additional appropriation of $95,000 is required.
