Hollister <br />City Manager <br />RESOLUTION AMENDING TITLE 7, CHAPTER 1, SECTION 7.1.205 OF THE SAN <br />LEANDRO ADMINISTRATIVE CODE RELATING TO RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR <br />THE USE OF PUBLIC PARKS AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES <br />SUMMA1tY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution to amend Title 7, Chapter 1 of the <br />Administrative Code to prohibit any person, subject to exceptions for disabled persons requiring <br />the assistance of an animal and special events with prior approval of the City Manager, from <br />allowing any animal under his or her care or custody to enter onto any ball park or playing field <br />approved for organized play. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City Council directed staff to draft regulations to ban animals from City ball parks and <br />playing fields. Staff has drafted a resolution that will add a new regulation to existing park <br />regulations in the Administrative Code. The new regulation prohibits any person from allowing <br />any animal under his or her care or custody to enter onto any ball park or playing field approved <br />for organized play. There are exceptions for disabled persons requiring the assistance of an <br />animal and for special events with prior approval of the City Manager. Upon adoption of the <br />regulation, Public Works will post signs prohibiting animals at the following playing fields: San <br />Leandro Ball Park, Stenzel Park Field, Thrasher Field, Pacific 1 and 2, Washington Manor <br />Middle School, Washington Manor Park Fields 1 and 2, John Muir Soccer Field, and Halcyon <br />Park Field. <br />Current City Council Policy <br />N/A <br />Previous City Council Action(s) <br />N/A <br />City Council Committee Review and Action <br />The Rules and Communications Committee has recommended that the item be brought to the full <br />City Council for action. <br />
