DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 14 <br />May 18, 2009 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Reed commented that she was invited to be the inspirational speaker at the <br />th <br />May 12 San Leandro Unified School District African American Achievement Night at the <br />Marina Community Center. Fourteen schools in the District were represented, including the <br />San Leandro Adult School. About 150 students with a 3.2 or greater grade point average <br />were honored that night. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Starosciak commented that she attended ribbon cuttings for Comerica Bank, the <br />Downtown Farmers Market and Grocery Outlet. In the absence of Mayor Santos, she spoke <br />on behalf of the City Council at the memorial service for Mayor Emeritus Jack Maltester. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the Downtown Farmers Market ribbon <br />cutting, the fundraiser for Building Futures with Women and Children, Councilmember <br />San Leandro Hospital, the San Leandro Heritage Faire at <br />the Library, the Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs meeting featuring Vice Mayor <br />Starosciak, and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors meeting. At the Board of <br />Supervisors meeting, the Board postponed for one month its vote on the EIR for the new <br />Eden Medical Center, and members of the Board criticized the Council for not passing a <br />th <br />parcel tax to fund the hospital. Councilmember Prola further reported that on May 14, he <br />attended the Eden Healthcare District Board meeting, and he presented to the Board the <br />resolution adopted by the Council. He also requested hospital viability study for San <br />Leandro Hospital. Councilmember Prola also attended Assemblymember <br />Womens Health Faire at the Main Library and the memorial service for Mayor Emeritus Jack <br />Maltester. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens expressed concern about future budget situation. He <br />suggested that the Council begin to examine the situation, and make it a very public process. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza attended the service for Mayor Emeritus Jack Maltester, and she <br />remarked that it was a great tribute to him. She also attended the s Health Faire, <br />Neighborhood Cleanup, the Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs meeting, and the <br />three ribbon cutting ceremonies. <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory commented on his Town Hall meeting on San Leandro Hospital, <br />and he expressed appreciation for Councilmember . He commented that the <br />reaction to resolution and letter showed their lack of <br />consideration for San Leandro. Councilmember Gregory stated that he hoped City <br />Manager Hollister could invite Alameda County Health Care Services Director Dave Kears, <br />and Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker, to speak at a future work session. Councilmember Gregory <br />thth <br />attended the May 7 fundraiser for Building Futures with Women and Children, the May 9 <br />th <br />production of Bike to <br />Work Day, which was organized by the Transportation Engineering division. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented that he will be the commencement speaker at the Lincoln High <br />School graduation ceremony.
