DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 5 <br />May 18, 2009 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />Jill Rogers-Quaye, San Leandro resident <br />, addressed the City Council, urging the Council <br />to keep Farrelly Pool open. Ms. Rogers-Quaye commented on the long waits she experienced <br />at nearby pools this past weekend, and the importance of Farrelly Pool in keeping the <br />neighborhood connected. <br /> <br />Craig Williams, San Leandro resident <br />, addressed the City Council, expressing his support <br />for competitive sports and for keeping Farrelly Pool open. <br /> <br />Vikas Gupta, San Leandro resident <br />, addressed the City Council, read a letter from Marcia <br />Smith, whose mother, Fran Smith, was a former manager of Farrelly Pool. The letter related <br />the historical significance of the pool, and its importance to local residents. <br /> <br />Neha Gupta, San Leandro resident <br />, addressed the City Council, commenting that she and <br />her brother take swim lessons at Farrelly Pool. Ms. Gupta urged the Council to keep the pool <br />open. <br /> <br />Mia Ousley, San Leandro Community Action Network (SLCAN), <br /> addressed the City <br />Council, requesting that the Council reasons to the <br />Alameda County Board of Supervisors nvironmental <br />Impact Report (EIR) unless the safety of San Leandro Hospital can be guaranteed. Ms. <br /> <br /> <br />Melanie Kreiss, San Leandro resident <br />, addressed the City Council, commenting that she <br />learned to swim at Farrelly Pool, and is now a lifeguard there. Ms. Kreiss urged the Council <br />to keep the pool open. <br /> <br /> <br /> 6. CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND COMMENTS <br /> <br />City Manager Hollister addressed the issue of Farrelly Pool. He reported that the pool costs <br />approximately $115,000 annually to operate, and would require ongoing maintenance of <br />$40,000 even if closed. Mr. Hollister commented on the extreme difficulty of closing the <br />. He commented that the work of the Measure WW Ad Hoc Committee <br />would be reported out later this evening. Mr. Hollister stated that staff would look into the <br />rehabilitation of Farnsworth Street, and staff would coordinate with Ms. Zupp to schedule a <br />future presentation to the Council by DCARA. Regarding San Leandro Hospital, Mr. <br />Hollister commented that the Council has advocated to the Board of Supervisors and Sutter to <br />keep the hospital open. <br /> <br />City Attorney Williams commented on the meetings of the City Council Measure WW Ad <br />Hoc Committee. She stated that committees comprised of less than a quorum of the Council, <br />created to meet on a specific topic and for a short duration, are not subject to the Brown Act. <br />Ms. Williams noted that the Ad Hoc Committee meetings were nsas <br />defined in the Act. <br /> <br /> <br />
