Regular Meeting <br />Item 1: Roll Call <br />Present: Members Daly, Gilcrest, Mendieta (arrived 7:05 p.m.), Shields, Sidari, <br />Vice Chair Nlarr, Chair Pearson <br />Absent: None <br />Staff: Larry Ornellas, Civic Center Meeting Room Coordinator; Luke Sims, <br />Community Development Director; Bill Baptista, Administrative <br />Specialist, San Leandro Police Department Community Compliance <br />Division; Inga Lintvedt and Richard Pio Roda, Assistant City <br />Attorneys; Kelly Hamer, Planner I; Alice Malotte, Recording <br />Secretary; Sally Barros, Secretary. <br />Item 9: Miscellaneous <br />(a) Discussion of possible proposal to merge the Board of Zoning Adjustments <br />and the Planning Commission. [Sims] <br />Community Development Director Sims stated the City Council had asked that he <br />discuss the idea of merging the two bodies into one. He emphasized that the Council had <br />no particular agenda, but it was imperative that these kinds of issues be discussed, <br />because of the current General Fund issues that faced the city. BZA feedback would be <br />heard by Council probably in July. Historic community development objectives, as <br />illustrated by historical and recent photos, included: a substantial industrial legacy, older <br />commercial strips, and transit improvements. Development that was underway included: <br />• Creekside Plaza, downtown improvements, new senior center <br />• Parking facility to replace parking facility behind Wells Fargo Bank <br />• Medical center <br />• 51-Unit senior housing development at Estabrook that had recently broke ground <br />The Community Development Department included: <br />• Building Services <br />• Business Development <br />
