Annual Rent Review Program Evaluation (June 2008 -May 2009) <br />From June 2008 to May 2009, there were 52 tenant and landlord inquiries addressed by staff (see <br />Attachment A) which is the same number as the previous year. Of the 52 inquiries this year, there <br />were 26 inquiries by tenants and 26 by landlords. <br />There were 4 cases heard by the Rent Review Board this year which is slightly lower than the 6 <br />cases heard last year. One factor for the decline in RRB cases maybe the decline in rents and rise <br />in vacancies, particularly in 2009 to date which is discussed further below. <br />Table 1. Staff conducts an informal, point-in-time rental survey annually based on <br />mass circulated listings in local and regional newspapers and on the Internet as displayed in <br />Table 2 below. Table 2 confirms the decline in rents in 2009 for one bedroom and 2 bedroom <br />units, however, rents for studios and three bedroom units have increased which may reflect <br />greater demand for them. <br />Table 2.
