San Leandro Economic Forum -This program, initiated with the successful event on June 22nd, and
being established as an ongoing initiative, is designed to "tell the San Leandro success story", to work
together as a community to face the unprecedented economic challenges in the months and years ahead,
and to develop and implement strategies to make San Leandro the premier business community in the
Bay Area, thereby strengthening our economy, our employment opportunities and our tax base.
3. Industrial Support & Development Programs - To grow a competitive San Leandro industrial economy
for the 21s` century, the City and the Chamber have established five geographic industrial
neighborhoods, each with an industrial council. The purpose is to determine company service needs so
that our companies stay and grow here, and, working together with the businesses, strengthen each area
to be competitive in attracting and growing new business opportunities. Introductory meetings have
been held in each area, with one follow-up meeting in the Adams area. Key issues included
strengthening local sourcing opportunities, employment and training, safety and security and attracting
new technology companies.
4. Web-based Industrial Directory -One element of the Industrial Support and Development Programs is
the creation of a web-based industrial directory, currently in the testing stage, designed to encourage
local sourcing and be a resource to the industrial and commercial brokerage community. The current
phase will provide basic company information. The Chamber will work with the City to make this site
interactive so that it becomes an active resource and referral network as well, reaching beyond the city
to expand San Leandro's customer base.
5. Downtown Association Support -Scheduling and managing association meetings.
6. Farmer's Market Business & Community Program -Managing two booths at the Farmers' Market,
providing marketing opportunities for local small businesses and greater visibility for community-based
organizations.
7. Farmers' Market Liquor Licenses -Managing the liquor licenses for the market's six wine tasting
events.
8. Dine San Leandro Guide -Worked with the Chamber Ambassadors to secure ads to help pay for a local
dining guide. A majority of business owners were reluctant to offer discounts in this. recession. Revised
strategy - in partnership with San Leandro Community Guide, apull-out "Dine San Leandro" is planned
for next year's issue, thereby making the guide available to every household in the city.
9. San Leandro Map Ad -Rather than producing a traditional map in 08-09, with the growing domination
of electronic mapping both on the Internet and on phones, the Chamber is exploring the use of the web
for a San Leandro map providing much greater detail than existing services, and supported by map ads.
In the 2008-2009 program year the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce has strengthened its business support
and development partnership with the City through these productive and effective initiatives and programs, and
looks forward to working with the City in 2009-2010 to continue this vital and strategic work.
San Leandro Chamber of Commerce - 2008-2009 Fiscal Year Review -Business Assistance Services Page 2
