MINUTES Page 12
City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-July 6, 2009
Councilmember Gregory commented that he attended the Firefighter Recruit Graduation at
the new Performing Arts Center in Castro Valley, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Steering
Committee meeting, and the Chamber's Economic Summit. He stated that he hoped to
distribute the AC Transit service and fee changes, which include two new east-west routes in
San Leandro. Councilmember Gregory urged his Council colleagues to be shameless
promoters of San Leandro, and he commented on the challenge of going "soda free" this
summer. He commented on the retirement of Suzanne Wong after many years of service to
the San Leandro Adult School, and on a relatively quiet 4th of July.
Mayor Santos commented that he attended the 100' Anniversary Holy Ghost Parade at St.
Johns and the Pawathon, and he hosted Coffee with the Mayor. His dog, Schatzi, was the
Pawathon Grand Marshal. Mayor Santos expressed appreciation for Councihnember Prola's
positive comments regarding Coffee with the Mayor. His young friend from Canada, Casey
Wright, will pay a visit to his office tomorrow. Mayor Santos commented that he went on a
police ride-along on the 4th of July, and while it was very busy, there was not a lot of
fireworks activity. He mentioned a news article regarding San Leandro's membership in the
East Bay Green Corridor, of which he would have staff provide copies to the Council.
Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of Kathleen
Mesa, who was a jailer for 19 years with the City of San Leandro Police Department; Dee
Cox, who was a longtime Rotary Club member and supporter; and Lois Brown, a San
Lorenzo resident and an original member of the Neighborhood Aviation Advisory Committee
of San Leandro (NAACSL).
13. ADJOURN
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m., and
• In memory of Kathleen Mesa.
• In memory of Dee Cox.
• In memory of Lois Brown.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED:
~Q
MARIAN 1=PANDA
City Clerk of the City of San Leandro
