MINUTES Page 4 City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting~Tuly 6, 2009 Newly-appointed Human Services Commissioner Corina Lopez took the Oath of Office administered by City Clerk Marian Handa. D. Presentation on San Leandro Education Foundation (SLED). Deborah Cox, President of the San Leandro Education Foundation (SLED), gave a short PowerPoint presentation. The presentation provided information on SLED, its mission, focus, and funding sources. Ms. Cox announced SLED's fundraising program, "Eat Out for Education," which will be held the first Wednesday of every month at local eateries. E. Proclamation Declaring the Months of July and August 2009 as a "Soda Free Summer" in San Leandro. Councilmember Gregory accepted the "Soda Free Summer" proclamation presented by Mayor Santos. F. Proclamation Declaring July 2009 as "Parks and Recreation Month" in San Leandro. City of San Leandro Recreation and Human Services Director Carolyn Knudtson accepted the "Parks and Recreation Month" proclamation presented by Mayor Santos. G. Video of City of Honolulu's Olympic Day Celebration in Support of Chicago's Bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. A video was shown of Honolulu's Olympic Day Celebration. Mayor Santos stated that all U.S. cities have been asked to adopt a resolution, supporting the City of Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games. The City of San Leandro will host a similar Olympic Day Celebration, in conjunction with Councilmember Gregory's September 12 Challenge Walk-Off event. H. Recap of San Leandro Chamber of Commerce's Economic Forum. City Manager Hollister introduced the video, which showed a 5-minute excerpt of Michael Freedman's speech from the recent Economic Forum. In his speech, 1VIr. Freedman spoke about the movement away from the suburban model of development, and the need for the City to be at the forefront of change. 3. PUBLIC HEARINGS-CITY COUNCIL Public Hearing Comments are limited to 5 minutes per speaker, subject to adjustment by the Mayor. When you address the City Council, you should fill out a speaker card and submit it to the City Clerk so the order of speakers may be determined and an official record of names and addresses obtained.
