Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and <br />Redevelopment Agency Meeting - March 3, 1997 <br />Page - 7 - <br />Carey Walker, 471 Santa Monica, said there are vacancies at <br />Greenhouse Marketplace and Bayfair Mall and suggested that the <br />development locate there. <br />Bob Tucknott, 14198 Wicks Boulevard, spoke in favor of the project <br />and said the downtown needs development. He said anything going into <br />the building will bring cars. He said it is good for the economy, <br />the City, and the downtown area. <br />Ed Suchman, 14336 Wiley Street, cited the history of the Plaza I area <br />and urged the Council to approve the project. <br />Al Rosenga, 534 Parrott Street, commented on the flow plan of the <br />development and disagrees with the curb cut for the project. He said <br />other buildings in the area could be used and asked why this building <br />has not been rented. He said the area will result in congestion. <br />Audrey McFarland, 141 - 41st Avenue, said she is not against <br />Starbuck's but disagrees with the location; she said she is against <br />local businesses being displaced; she suggested Bayfair as an <br />alternative. <br />Paul Cayere, 773 Juana Avenue, supports the project; he said would <br />like to see people walking in the downtown during the evenings, such <br />as Castro Valley. He said existing businesses will continue to be <br />supported. He said this will jumpstart the next phase of business <br />development in the downtown. <br />Charlie Coffin, 545 Blossom Way, supports the project; he said the <br />parking needs to be addressed; he said businesses like these will <br />bring more people to the area. <br />Rob Scribner, 890 East Country View Circle, Modesto, said the energy <br />by the City and staff is positive; he said his family has recently <br />made a considerable investment in the downtown; he supports the <br />project. <br />Dale Reed, 1560 Daily Court, urges the Council to support the <br />project, as they would any business desiring to locate in San <br />Leandro. He said the playing field should remain fair; he noted the <br />parking issue needs to be addressed. <br />John Faria, 2410 Lakeview Drive, said this property represents why <br />redevelopment exists; he urges the Council to take action and support <br />the project; he said the property is important to the downtown and 10 <br />years is long enough. <br />Dan Gray, 2565 Merced Street, spoke on behalf of the Chamber of <br />Commerce Economic Development Committee. He said they endorse the <br />project with the following considerations: assistance to existing <br />businesses, parking issues addressed, and no extraordinary subsidies <br />be provided. <br />
