Minutes - Special Joint <br />Redevelopment Agencies <br />September 29, 1997 <br />2. STAFF REPORT <br />A. Introduction <br />Meeting of the City Councils and Page - 2 - <br />of the Cities of Oakland and San Leandro <br />Andy Altman, representing Oakland, and June Catalano, Development <br />Services Director for the City of San Leandro, gave an overview of <br />the matter before both Councils/Redevelopment Agencies. <br />B. Presentation <br />Jeff Chew, representing Oakland, and Leslie Gould, Manager of <br />Redevelopment Projects for the City of San Leandro, gave a joint <br />presentation on the project rationale, process, and the five areas <br />of cooperation, which included: <br />-- Airport Entrance <br />-- Jobs <br />-- Commercial Revitalization <br />-- Neighborhood Appearance <br />-- Interjurisdictional Cooperation <br />C. Report Regarding Recommended Actions to Be Taken by Both Councils <br />and Redevelopment Agencies. <br />3. COUNCIL COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS <br />Various questions and comments were received from both the Oakland and <br />City of San Leandro City Councils/Redevelopment Agency Members. <br />4. PUBLIC HEARING <br />Both Mayor Harris and Mayor Corbett declared the Joint Hearing open: <br />A. John Rodgers, P.O. Box 2147, Oakland, addressed the Joint <br />Councils/Redevelopment Agencies in favor of the proposed plan. He <br />expressed concerns with how this will relate to ongoing <br />negotiations regarding noise from the Oakland Airport. <br />B. Alice Spearman, 10620 Stella Street, Oakland, addressed the Joint <br />Councils/Redevelopment Agencies in favor of the proposed plan and <br />stated she hopes both agencies will work with students and/or form <br />some sort of joint Youth Advisory Council to address issues such <br />as crime. She concluded by stating she welcomes any proposal for <br />the schools to work together on this issue. <br />Hearing no further requests to speak, the Public Hearing was closed. <br />C. Rick Wederhorn, Staff Member from Oakland, responded to the <br />comments and noted the Port of Oakland is very receptive to <br />working through the process. The Port is not ignoring or avoiding <br />the issue of noise. They will continue to maintain a dialogue <br />with San Leandro, as well as with Alameda. <br />
