Council Member Galvan commented that the Council does not always <br />recognize the efforts of staff like they should, and he would like to <br />recognize Rosie Rios for her efforts in putting together the Sausage <br />and Suds event. He commented further that he feels this will became <br />a signature event for the City. <br />2. Council Member Young thanked the Mayor for allowing her to attend <br />events on her behalf, which included the Festival at Assumption <br />School, the California Conservatory Theater for their Wine and Cheese <br />Event, the Shoreline and San Leandro Friends of the Creek Clean-Up, <br />the Pena Francis event at the Marina, the Best Manor Picnic, the <br />Joint Meeting with the Oakland City Council regarding the ABAG <br />Project, and an event at the Library a couple of weeks ago regarding <br />the soundwall problem regarding the residents at Bay-O-Vista and <br />District 2. <br />3. Council Member Polvorosa urged citizens to attend the upcoming <br />Sausage and Suds Festival on October 12, 1997, and recognized Rosie <br />Rios, Nanci Klein, and Virginia Fox for their efforts in planning <br />this event. <br />Council Member Polvorosa concluded by asking that the Mayor adjourn <br />the meeting in memory of Darryl Shield's mother who recently passed <br />away. <br />4. Council Member Glaze commented on the Clean-Up Day at Washington <br />Manor School and added that he took real pride in the City's tree <br />crew who interacted with the public and the kids. He also commented <br />on the Washington Manor Day in the Park. <br />5. Vice Mayor Loeffler commented that he has been visiting family in <br />Idaho and had an opportunity to watch their Council on cable TV. <br />Vice Mayor Loeffler commented on the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors' <br />Rally and the 3k Stroll/Walk on September 28th. He expressed concern <br />that there are fewer people participating in the Shoreline Run and <br />suggested that event be revisited with regard to when and how it is <br />done in order to encourage greater attendance. <br />
