Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Special Meeting Page - 2 -
November 10, 1997
Vice Mayor Loeffler asked if recognition of Lee Bruner could be made at
the Golf Course. The Mayor noted the Policy Committee is working on
that issue Citywide. The City Attorney also responded by noting that
American Golf will have the responsibility of operating and maintaining
the course, and he is sure they will be very cooperative with regard to
requests by the City such as this. He added that the Lease does not
prevent this type of special request.
Council Member Lothrop asked whether the plans for the golf course will
meet the Audubon Society requirements. It was noted they have a year-
long period to engage and develop the design, and that issue will be
addressed during the design period.
Council Member Young questioned the rates, and it was noted the Council
would have control of off-peak resident rates, but the market would
determine the peak rates. It was also noted they do not anticipate any
CEQA problems when the renovation begins.
The City Clerk read two letters of support for the Agreement into the
record. The letters were from Eunice L. Conley, Tony Lema Women's Golf
Club and Harry Lema, President of the San Leandro Golf Club.
The following Resolution was then introduced:
- Resolution No. 97-147, Resolution Approving Lease Agreement Between
the "City of San Leandro" and "American Golf Corporation" for the San
Leandro Golf Facility. (1851)
M/S/C Glaze and Loeffler. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0
Mr. Joe Guerra, American Golf Corporation, made some brief remarks,
noting they are excited and enthusiastic about this venture. He
introduced his team and concluded by stating the Council can count on
them to do a good job for the City.
Mayor Corbett recognized members of the Technical Committee who put
their time and effort into this selection process; as well as, Wandzia
Grycz, Bob Rockett, Dan McFadden, David Sams, and Steve Meyers.
Council Member Galvan commented that he tips his hat to the City Manager
for accomplishing this Agreement, noting this will be a great asset to
the City. He also thanked Wandzia Grycz, Bob Rockett, David Sams, the
Technical Committee, and the Council Members involved.
Council Member Glaze commented that Council Member Galvan had a
visionary plan last year to have a first-class golf course, and he sees
his dream is coming true quicker than one would have thought. He
thanked everyone involved, as well.
Mayor Corbett thanked the Council Subcommittee for their efforts.
