CULTURAL RESOURCES -- Would the project:
a) Cause a substantial adverse change in the
significance of a historical resource as defined in
§ 15064.5?
b) Cause a substantial adverse change in the
significance of a unique archaeological resource
pursuant to § 15064.5?
c) Directly or indirectly destroy a unique
paleontological resource or site or unique
geological feature?
d) Disturb any hunnan remains, including those
interred outside of formal cemeteries?
DISCUSSION
a,b) A records search of all pertinent survey and site data wa`s conducted at the Northwest Information
Center at Sonoma State University. The records were accessed by utilizing the San Leandro
USGS 7.5-minute quadrangle map, Township 3 South, Range 3 West, in Alameda County. The
review encompassed the Project area and a 1,000-foot Area of Potential Effect (APE) buffer.
Previous surveys and studies and archaeological site records were examined as they pertained to
the APE. In addition, the following resources were examined: Directory of Properties in the
Historic Property Data File (pages for the City), the National Register of Historic Places, the
California Register of Historic Resources, the California Inventory of Historic Resources, the
California Historical Landmarks, and Historic-period maps (1857 GLO Rancho San Antonio
[Peralta]). Afield reconnaissance of the proposed alignment was also conducted by William Self
Associates, Inc.
The records and information search indicated that no archaeological or historical resources have
been previously identified within the footprint of the alignment or recorded within t/a mile of the
Project area. Segments of the alignment have been surveyed before (see Table 2-2}; the surveys
were negative, indicating that no archaeological sites were identified in the Project area.
Survey Findings
Ground visibility within the Project area varied from good to very poor depending on the
vegetation and ground cover. Paved roads and park lawns offered no ground visibility, while the
best ground visibility was afforded by bare areas next to sloughs. No evidence of archaeological
resources was observed during the field survey, nor were any extant historical resources observed
in the Project area. No evidence of prehistoric or historic artifacts or features was observed
within or immediately adjoining the Project APE.
San Leandro RecyGcd Water Project 2-19 FSA / 203193
Draft IS/IvIND
