IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION N0.2004-147 (1368) <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING AN ENVIRONMENTALLY PERFERABLE PURCHASING <br />(EPP) POLICY FOR THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RECITALS <br />WHEREAS, The California Integrated Waste Management Act, passed in 1989, <br />requires each jurisdiction in the state to divert 50% of its solid waste from landfills by <br />December 31, 2000, and to maintain that rate in subsequent years; and <br />WHEREAS, The Alameda County Waste Reduction and Recycling Act of 1990 <br />(Measure D) set a countywide goal of diverting 75% of all solid waste generated in the <br />county by the year 2010; and <br />WHEREAS, The San Leandro General Plan has set a landfill diversion goal of 75% for <br />the year 2010; and <br />WHEREAS, The City of San Leandro has made significant investments in developing a <br />successful recycling system and recognizes that recycled content products are essential to the <br />continuing viability of that recycling system; and <br />WHEREAS, The City of San Leandro has an interest in implementing management <br />practices that reduce environmental impacts. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro hereby resolves to <br />approve the attached Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy which addresses source <br />reduction, recycled content products, energy and water savings, green building, landscaping, and <br />toxics. <br />Introduced by Councilmember Santos on this 4th day of October, 2004 and passed and <br />adopted by the following called vote: <br />Members of the Council: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Badger, Glaze, Grant, Nardine, Santos, Stephens; Mayor Young(7) <br />NOES: None (0) <br />ABSENT: None (0) <br />ATTEST: r V ' ~~~/~ <br />Marian Handa, City Clerk <br />
